Food delivery and cleaning through digital platforms have become part of everyday life in Denmark. Researchers aim to uncover how regulations and rights affect those doing the work.
Professor Martin Bak Jørgensen from the Department of Culture and Communication and the research group DEMOS has received a grant of DKK 3,166,769 from the Independent Research Fund Denmark for the project Migrant platform labour in Denmark: Governance, implications, resistance (GIG-MIG).
The project investigates how online platforms for cleaning and food delivery— now a growing feature of the Danish labor market — impact migrant workers. The EU’s new directive on platform work must be implemented in Danish legislation, which will significantly influence the future of the platform economy. GIG-MIG will provide empirical insights into migrant platform workers’ experiences and perspectives and actively involve them in the research as assistants.
Beyond strengthening the academic knowledge base, the project aims to share results with migrant associations, grassroots organizations, and labor unions to promote inclusion and equal conditions in the Danish labor market.
